AVG Update

I have been advised that I should upgrade my FREE AVG 7.5 to 8.0.
In order to do that I have to enter the license number from my original agreement.
I can't find it!
Can anyone help me to find it?
They are making this process very difficult, because they want me to pay 
I have been perfectly happy with my free version so far.

Yes they are making things difficult.
I understand from reading a previous thread on rootschat that some people had problems with the new version - my OH upgraded to version 8, but then took it off because it was making the computer run slowly.
I had an email from AVG a few days ago to say that we had no option but to upgrade to version 8 and that from a certain date the version we have will not work!
So, it's difficult - I will probably have to wait for it to stop, and then look for something else.

Hi Kooky
Try e-mailing their customer support. They are usually very helpful and will send your original license number to the e-mail address with which you originally registered with them.

I don't think you need a licence number to upgrade to AVG 8 free if you already have 7.5 free. I've just done it and it was quite straightforward once I had found the free option. That wasn't easy, as the paid for version is the most obvious.
I think I went straight to the website rather than using the link they send you, and then downloaded from their server rather than the other 'recommended' option. There definitely is a free AVG 8!

I looked on the web site, but it won't let me down load 8.1.
I think 7.5 is still operational.
I'll do it when 7.5 seems to have finished.

I also upgraded to free AVG 8 yesterday,no problems doing it but comp definitely slower, also every e-mail I receive has an attachment icon but no attachment. It would seem that AVG 7 is only running up to the end of the month.

I have sadly had to part company with AVG after many happy years.
I downloaded Version 8 and it totally hung up the computer. Even after tweaking and persisting for a few days, it did not improve. Very resource heavy and scanning took 3-5 hours; impossible to run anything else as opposed to the old AVG 7.5 background scans. I use XP SP2 (and probably SP3 'cos I have automatic update on).
So I uninstalled it, cleaned up the muck the uninstall left behind and downloaded AVAST.
Not a happy bunny.

I get Norton free with BT/Yahoo. The computer that I was using is the last one that has AVG on it.

Norton has too many conflicts with much of the software we use. I have had to remove the free trials from various computers over the years.
Most Geek sites condemn Norton on account of this.
