Covenanter 1854 and Donald Mckay 1862
« on: Friday 09 May 08 13:28 BST (UK) »

I am looking for some information on these two ships, specifically passenger lists in Liverpool, where both boats sailed from. I have a good history on the Donald Mckay, with a photo, but not the passenger lists from England. I am having no success with Covenanter as I keep getting information on the religious Covenanters of earlier days, and nothing on the ship which landed in Geelong in January, 1855
Any assistance would be appreciated

Lists of passengers for both ships show up here
http://proarchives.imagineering.com.au/index_search.asp?searchid=23
the fiche with details are available at the PROV in Melbourne

You could try searching the state library for photographs

Thanks Trish
I found my Morrells on the Unassisted lists and Sarah Price on the Assisted list. Sarah Price would have been 7 when she left and I believe, but don't know, that she travelled to Oz with 35 yo Jane Price and her 6 yo daughter, Jane. What  I want to find, if i can, is the lists in Liverpool to see if they travelled together, or if she travelled with anyone else as a 7 yo. Do you know if such lists exist?

The fiche as per the Vic list are available at the PROV in Victoria and also other state libraries. They usually have the full shipping list & have the folks grouped with their family members.

I don't know about lists from liverpool - haven't ever found any for my folks online

Hi All,

Just supporting Jenn's words about searching pages from Australia only.  I see you are in Saudi.

We here in Australia get this option [search pages from Australia] almost automatically, but from outside the country just put in address bar.

http://www.google.com.au/

It certainly will make searches for Australian material easier.

Also on the subject of Google searching, did you know that you can exclude words/terms from your search by using brackets and minus signs.

For example.
If you want to search a guy called Brett Whitely, but not the artist, you can cancel a lot of google hits on him by putting in search....

Brett Whitely[-artist-painter]

Cuts the extraneous a little bit anyway!

All that is not very relevant to your search is it Roll Eyes

Thanks Sue and JEnn
I had the information on the Covenanter, and a bit more, such as it was only a few days out from Liverpool when it had to return as there may have been cholera on board. I also have a great article on the History of the "Donald McKay", named after the guy who built her. But I haven't been able to find anything from the Liverpool end, which has been a surprise. I appreciate that info about excluding things in a google search - I'll definitely do that from now on
Thank you both again
