I know they're taken from different angles, but are you sure it is the same man in both photos?  To me there's a discrepancy between the two in terms of the ears and the nose, particularly - even with the supposed age difference.

The whiskers were around for a long time, Rabbit, it started with Prince Albert and went from there.

Hi Paula,

I know that but the collar is what I am looking at, My Gramp has a collar just the same, so that is why I said 1910 because I have one of Gramp and one of Gran, hanging on the wall and Gran is holding her son who was about 4-5 years old.  He was born 1904/5.

Both pictures were taken at the same time in the same studio.   That is how I am so sure.

I'm still sticking to 1890s.
I did wonder about it being the same fellow, because the second one has a 'widows peak,' (same as I have) hair coming to a point centre of forehead, the first one doesn't seem to have that, but his hair is very full and that might cover the fact that it is there.

Hi Prue,

I agree with you, the second man has also got a widow's peak in his hairline!  That doesn't alter with age, and is visable from most angles.  They are not the same man!

I have got a widows peak as well you see!

Thats what I meant about the hairline, I'm not sure if widow's peak is the term used for men that receed at the sides. Undecided
Angle of shot doesn't hide this, I have enough pictures of OH, my dad and grandad to know that.

The nose is different too...

Mike could the earlier photo be a brother?

Hi Paula,

I have no idea, but I also have a double crown as well.  It is supposed to be lucky!

My hair is greying at the side now but the rest of it is the same colour it always was!  I am so glad I am not receding like the Men do! Grin

Hi jc26red,  I have no idea what the men call it, I call it a widower's peak!

It's the same for both, as far as I am concerned...it was named after the peak in a widow's cap in the really old days...Elizabethan or something...I think.
Second chap seems to have lots of hair and doesn't look receding to me....

Hi all,

I'm progressively less certain about anything connected with this family  Undecided
However, I was assured it was the same man, and I think there is a strong resemblance; the shape of the chin, the hairline around the temple, the moustache, the consistent hairstyle . . . these are the 3 pics I have of him, aged - ??//63//c.80

Since the possibility of retouching occurred to me, I've had a look again at the original scan, and I seriously wonder if there was some manual adjustment of the hairline by the studio?

Mike.

Huh Huh Huh why? most men want it stuck back on   Tongue

There could be slight retouching on one side but the center of the "widows peak" is gone and hairline is further back. If they were going to retouch, it would be bought forward more to be inline with the centre of widows peak, if you see what I mean.
The colour of the hair is quite fair or grey compared to the later photos.

And the nose is still wrong.

I think its someone from the same family but not John Stone.  sorry

Widows peak sounds girly for a Victorian gent.

Complete shot in the dark here....
Could the first pic be one of the father, and be a bit older than even I thought...I would go back as far as 1880, but that would be stretching it.

Hi mike175,

I reckon of the three pictures that you have there, the two RH ones [both Widows Peaks] are the same chap and the other one is either related or your reli has got it wrong, and given you duff info!!

My sister has nothing like my hairline and her hair is a completely different colour, so could it be a brother?
