Hi there,
Could sks please do a lookup in 1841 and 1851 for the following man:
William Aitken Born 1801 in Falkirk. His parents could either be Adam and Katherine or Mark and Agnes. If I can find out who his siblings are, I will be able to ascertain which are the correct parents.
He married Henrietta Petrie and they had a son, Thomas Alexander Aitken in 1830 in Falkirk.

Still looking, but you won't find William's parents from either census, if Thomas was born 1830 William married well before 1841 census, unless his parents lived with him.

Hi Jackie and Barbara
Did you confirm the parents for Thomas A. from his DC. I assume they were the right ones 
William and Henrietta show the following children on IGI (a combination of actual extract and submitted entries):
1. Thomas Hamilton Aitken Birth: 26 JUL 1821/Christening: 05 AUG 1821 Falkirk, Stirling
2. Margaret Douglas Aitken Birth: 20 SEP 1822 Falkirk, Stirling, Scotland
3. Agnes Aitken Birth: 25 SEP 1824 /Christening: 07 NOV 1824 Falkirk, Stirling
4. Helen Scrimgeour Aitken Birth: 11 JUN 1827 Falkirk, Stirling, Scotland
5. Thomas Aitken Birth: 27 APR 1830/ Christening: 09 MAY 1830 Falkirk, Stirling, Scotland
There is an OPR entry for their marriage/banns on 23 AUG 1820 Falkirk, Stirling which might include more info.

That 1851 must be correct. There is a submitted IGI entry for daughter Margaret's marriage to a John Petrie Stevenson on 26 JAN 1844 Falkirk, Stirling.

Do you want me to search for both pairs of William's possible parents in 1841 census?
Best thing would be to find his marriage really, and hope the parents are on there. Have you looked on Scotlandspeople for it?

hi to the two of you,
i do not have a death certificate for thomas, but have just done by way of elimination.
You have given me a lot of information which I am so grateful for.
I have tried in the past to access Scotlands people, but for some reason, it does not like my computer 
If you have time, i would be very grateful if you could look for the parents of William.
