I've had no problems with AVG 8 free either.

My husband got Macafee free for a year, but found this impossible and had to remove it, for the same reasons of making everything incredibly slow while it checked every email on the server before allowing them to be downloaded, and every website at length, as well as taking hours to scan the computer.

Looking at the website the paid for AVG looks quite similar. He is happy with Avasti now.
