Another daughter  .......
IGI Batch C008208 contains the following two children of Robert and Ann Couper...
Mary Ann 1815 (who we have not seen before)
Elizabeth 1816 (as seen on the 1841 census)

George E Coward, who was visiting Jane in 1851, is their son.

Morning DS,
Thank you for all the work you are doing on my behalf....excellent.
I had a paid researcher do the earlier work and I guess I was "a green researcher" myself at that time so just took his work as true.
It has only been lately when I've gone more deeply into trying to find John's ship and death that I started to ask questions about his report.
John's wife Ellen Humble remarried on 5th December, 1864 to Robert Clark, Dockyard Gateman, St. Hildas South Shields. Vol. 10a Page 798. They had a daughter named Ellen J. Clark born 1865, died 1866. Ellen Clark died 3/3/1872 age 42 years.

You can see Mary Ann Coward (widowed) in 1881, living with her sister Jane Capper in Hexham on http://www.familysearch.org/.
Mary Ann died in 1884 in Hexham aged 69.

Jane Capper died in 1890 aged 71 and William Jasper Capper died in 1891, first quarter (see FreeBMD for details). So neither of them appear on any more censuses.
We will keep looking for Elizabeth Couper born c1816, Robert Couper born c1820, Ann Couper born c1822 and Esther Louisa Couper born c1826 and if we find anything we will let you know.
I hope that what we have managed to find so far is of use to you. It opens up several other possible lines of enquiry and should you wish to pursue any of them, at some stage, can I suggest that you begin new topics for each of them ?

Good Morning DS,
Did all my family sheets yesterday and this family is sure growing.
I did find that I had eleven (11) children for Robert and Ann Couper.
George born just after they married (25/11/1810). Samuel, MaryAnn, Elizabeth, Jane, Robert, Ann, Esther Louisa, John, William and Caroline. I'll work on Familysearch today and see what else I can find on the family.
Details of John's ship and his death would be of particular interest. Have tried many avenues to no avail. If anyone has any ideas I would appreciate hearing from you.

DS, Grandson John Robert Couper born 1/11/1860 sailed from South Shields to Australia as crew on a ship. I found him as a Steward/Cook working out of Newcastle (here) in 1884. Last found him in the Census living with his step-father, Robert Clarke (Gateman Dockyard).
Do you have access to crew lists departing England to Australia early 1884?

The other George Couper was unmarried in 1841 and was seemingly in lodgings with no occupation shown for him. By 1851 he had married a Margaret Ann Stafford and was a Licensed Victualler, running the “Jolly Tar” at 12 Thrift Street, Jarrow, South Shields.
Neither of these might be “your” George (of course) but if one of them is, I would think the Shipwright is the favourite.
I cannot, readily, see any of them after 1851.
