Have i got the right man
« on: Saturday 10 May 08 04:03 BST (UK) »

I have a William Mumford marriage to Frances Haynes 1794 Kings Sutton It says William was from Newbottle.
I found Frances birth 1775 Kings Sutton but also there was a William Mumford birth 1775 Kings Sutton.
Would this be my William or would I have to look at Newbottle?

Hi Sue,
Firstly I must admit that I know nothing about this county but I did a bit of googling and discovered that Newbottle and Kings Sutton are parishes which are right beside each other.

I would say that this is your William Mumford b Kings Sutton - perhaps he was born on the border between the two parishes. And looking at a modern map, the two places are only a couple of miles apart. My vote is that you have found your William.

Have you checked the 1851 cenus to see if William and Frances are still alive? Or their siblings? Perhaps there may be clues as to their place of birth.

I will be interested to see what the expert's opinions on this are.

Hi Sue and Ruskie

Quote

I am no expert Ruskie but there are 2 families at this period in Northamptonshire in
the parishes noted.

From the Northants Marriage Index in Kings Sutton about that time period.

Kings Sutton Parish Church
30 Oct 1763
Richard MUMFORD otp to Ann NICHOLLS otp

22 Aug 1773
William MUMFORD otp, bachelor to Mary WAKELIN otp

Will list some more information in a moment when I have sorted it out.

From the Northants Marriage Index in Newbottle about that time period.

Newbottle Parish Church
02 Nov 1760
Richard MUMFORD otp, widower to Elizabeth LANE otp, spinster

13 Mar 1764
Thomas MUMFORD of Kings Sutton to Mary HITCHCOCK otp, spinster

I am afraid that Northamptonshire is not well covered on the I.G.I. so if someone can
do a look up in Parish Registers it might sort out which family.

Hi Ruskie and Sandy,
Sorry about the delay in answering I've a couple of busy days.  Thank  you both for your input.
I have found first Richard And Ann married in 1763 and Mary born 1766 in Kings Sutton but that is all so they may have moved to Newbottle.
William and Mary married 1773 had a lot of children born in Kings Sutton including William in 1775 who I thought was mine.
Thomas and Mary married in 1764 in Newbottle cannot find any children in Kings Sutton but as Thomas was from Kings Sutton I think I found a birth  in 1746 father Nathaniel so this could be the father of my William.
Richard and Elizabeth married 1760 Newbottle had a child in Kings Sutton 1762 but cannot find any more.

Sarah Mumford who married James Adams in 1827  is the daughter of my William. The other childred were James 1800 Mary 1802  Richard 1811 William 1816 and Thomas 1824.

With this the possibility of Richard William or Thomas as a name for his father.

Oh golly if I have not confused you and certainly confused myself.
I need a few more hours to try and sort this out but will be interested in what names you have from Newbottle Sandy.

Also thank you for all the census I did not have any.

Regards
Sue

Hi Sue

Well that took care of most of them.  Smiley You already have them.

I don't think I will have much to add.

Hi Sandy,
First I must apologise for not letting you know I had names from Kings Sutton but was really interested in names from Newbottle.
I did not have any census and was really greatfull for them.
For some reason I am not getting notified of replies except your very last one.
I would appreciate the names you got from Newbottle if any as I was really trying to find out if William was born about 1875 there.

Regards
