I found army pension records for a John Lawrence which gives an alias of Arthur Digby Hambridge. (The index says Arthur Digby Lawrence - incorrect). He entered the army in 1892 and left in 1904.
I have found a birth for Arthur Digby Hambridge in Jun 1868 in Pancras. I have also found him with his family in 1871 - RG10/215 f87 p25 but he and two of his sisters are not with them in 1881 (Ancestry mistranscription Wambridge) RG11 f192 p14.
His mother Catherine Lawrence married Charles Hambridge in 1855
I have managed to find births for him and his siblings all in Pancras, and have found the eldest brother, Frederick, in 1901. I have also found a death for his mother in 1883.
There is a marriage in 1918 for an Arthur D Hambridge to Eleanor C Perry in Reigate, but he would be 50 yrs old then. I cannot find any other marriages or deaths and cannot find any of the family in 1891.
Any ideas where he may be in 1881 and 1891 and why he used the alias. On the army records it stated in 1899 'changed name to Arthur Digby Lawrence' then this is crossed out - this is obviously the wrong way round It also gives next of kin as what looks like F John Lawrence.
I have checked everything I can think of in both surnames but have now come to a dead end
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Tracy

There are more army pension pages for Arthur Digby Hambridge, if you go back in and and tap in image number 2447 and work your way forward... 34 pages!! It mentions his wife Eleanor (Catherine i think) Perry yes he was around 50yrs.
Possibly Arthur ended up with Catherine's family, hence taking the name Lawrence. (I wonder where Digby comes from?) If you look for her family you may find Arthur.
