Missing Death Record?!

Hi Rootschatters!

Hope someone may be able to shed some light on to this for me as it is driving me round the bend!!!  Huh

I have the exact date of death for someone - 26 Oct 1957 (taken from their gravestone) and am trying (and failing) to find the death record in the BMD.

I was wondering if anyone knew why this may be the case? I have varied the surname spelling, and checked all quarters for 1956, 1957 and 1958 but no luck.

Any help/suggestions gratefully received!

He is buried in Ermington, near Ivybridge (which is close to Plymouth) in Devon.

He was definately not abroad at the time of his death.

A William G Packman died in Surrey NW in the Dec 1/4 of 1952 age 72 .

Is it possible that the date you thought was 1957 is in fact 1952?

If so the ref is volume 5g page 794

He is also listed as George Packman with the same ref numbers,someone must have said his name was George at first,then realised that he was really William G  Wink

Any good?  Or am I in the wrong part of the country?

Unfortunately the completely wrong area, and I have been back to the gravestone and photographed it - definately 1957. And he was 93 when he died.

Carol's right - apparently some got lost in transit from the local registrar's office and GRO (See Genuki - Civil Registration).
