help with James Fraser
« on: Saturday 10 May 08 22:40 BST (UK) »

I'm looking for the deathe of James Fraser, he was born 1818 in Urquhart Inverness to Alexander Fraser and Mary McDonald, married Isabella McKenzie in 1834 in Kirkhill Inverness. I know that Isabella died in December 1872 in Urquhart Inverness and that James was still alive then but I can't find his death. Can any of you help?

44 Well Street, Inverness

Andrew Frasaer, 60, joiner, b. Kirkhill
Janet, 58, joiner's wife, b. Dingwall
James, brother, 63, joiner, b. Kirkhill*

Just trying to get a hook on him  Smiley

Hi Gadget the last census I have him on is 1871 and the address is Lower Buntoit Urquhart Inverness  that is the address on the 1861 census and also on Isabella's death certificate in 1872. In the 1871 census James is 60, but on his birth cert. He was born in 1818. Will this help at all.

Hi Heaross

Just found them on the 1871. he's a joiner there so the 1881 one that I found looks likely. i noticed that I'd forgotten to put his age in - he was 63!

Is he this one in the 1881 census:

44 Well Street, Inverness

Andrew Frasaer, 60, joiner, b. Kirkhill
Janet, 58, joiner's wife, b. Dingwall
James, brother, 63, joiner, b. Kirkhill*

I'll check the 1891.

Can't see him on the 1891 so there's a strong chance that he died in Inverness 1881-1891. There are 3 deaths on SP that might be him:

1882 - aged 62, Inverness
1887 - aged 67, Inverness
1890 - aged 74, Inverness.

Hi Gadget, I don't have any info. that tells me James had a brother called Andrew, I'm going to the 1881 census to see what you found there.

Don't think he's any of the three I listed, Heaross. He's a tricky one. I'll have another go later when the sun goes down. If If ind anything, I'll get back to you.

Tis very hot here !

Hi again

There just doesn't seem to be a death that fits really well. Did they have children that he might have moved to after Isabella died?

Hi I've looked at the censuses you mentioned and apart from 1841 I had the rest of them. I've also looked a t some deaths on SP but none of them so far have been him   and I can't get a trace of hime through his family unless he moved to another area after Isabella died. I don't know where to go next any ideas.

I've looked at virtually all of them in Invernessshire  Undecided

Did it say that he was alive ( or at least she was not the widow of) on Isabella's death cert?

Only other thing was that he might have gone into a hospital/away visiting, etc. and died outwith the area - and there are so many James Fra*ers  Sad

Itried to check these by putting in M*donald as mother's name and just a J for first namebut nothing came up  Sad

Hi Gadget, this is a real puzzle on Isabella's death certificate 1872 James is still alive  and the address of residence for Isabella is the same as on the 1871 census after that the rest is a mystery. Thanks for all your help, I think i'll just have to let this go for now as I am not getting anywhere at all. Regards from Heaross.
