Could someone please help me by looking up a baptism record for George Joseph Whitehead b 1866.
Possibly born in Rolvenden. mother unknown, father might be a George Whitehead. Looking for more information so I can order the correct birth certificate.

I've looked at Baptisms (1556-1899) & there's nothing at all for Whitehead, although the records say "with gaps" but there's no indication if that means names or dates.
I've also looked at Marriages (1538-1836) there's only one Whitehead marriage, so it looks as if they are not a Rolvenden family.
Is the birth George J Whitehead Sep qtr 1866 Thanet?
Rolvenden is in the Tenterden registration district, so if that's your George, his baptism won't be in Rolvenden or the surrounding parishes, unless of course the family moved from Thanet just after his birth!

Birth is in Sep 1866 Thanet there is also another in the same quarter and date in Greenwich.
I think the family he is connected to is
Josiah Valentine WHITEHEAD m Martha HARDEN Oct 1832 in Rovelden.

The Josiah & Martha marriage is the only Whitehead mentioned in the records I have.
I can't see young George in the 1871 census, & the name Whitehead is spread all over Kent, so no clues there. At the moment, both the Thanet & Greenwich births are equally likely.
I don't suppose you've any idea what Josiah's occupation was? If he had a particular skill it might point to where they lived.

Josiah Whitehead of Tenterden to Martha Harden otp

I've been thinking about the ages. It usually says if either was a minor, although there's no mention of ages here.
Let's say that Martha was only 16 when she married, that would make her 50 when George was born. Not impossible of course.
There's a Josiah Whitehead, age 31, Hairdresser, on the 1841 Census, with Martha age 31, which would make her 56 in 1866.
I think he's more likely to be a grandson. Even that doesn't really give a clue which certificate to go for, if George was born to a daughter, she could have been sent away to give birth.

I think the family may have been non-conformist or at least one of Josiah and Martha's children was baptised in a non-conformist chapel and we have another place of birth for George Joseph - Newingon, Surrey/London (census birthplaces vary) Betty http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,295679.0.html
