Hi,
I found this burial and wondered if it could be 'your' Dorothy as Hampreston is very close to Wimborne Minster,
Hampreston Burials 1781 - 1812
30 Nov 1784 Dorothy CHERRETT wife of Robert BT

Apropos of not much ... I've got a Dorothy, listed as 'Dorety' ... took me about a year to laterally think the spelling of Dorothy !

Hi,
I realised who you were just after I posted, so had a bit of a giggle at that.
I sometimes do a little research on a particular name just to add a little more information, Dorothy Frith was the name I was interested in then came across Frith Farm in Kent and wondered if there was a name connection.
I am wondering if you would mind, if it were by email, to send a copy of Peter's will, it just adds to the interest and veracity of it all. Do you still have my email address?
Cheers Janis

According to this website the surnames Cherrett and Gerrard are interchangeable: http://homepages.nildram.co.uk/~jimella/cherrett.htm#isaac
Robert Gerrard/Cherrett and Mary Acourt married in Wareham in 1762. The site mentions three children (Mary, Isaac and Sarah) but a look at the opcdorset site shows a fourth: Dorothy Allen b in 1767.
The co-incidence of names might make this worth exploring.
(It's not clear from the above posts why Wimborne is in the title).
Richard

Hi, Yes, Richard, there are several variations of Cherratt including Gerard. I will look on the site that you mentioned.
The reason for Wimborne Minster in the heading is that Robert Cherratt was christened there in 1743, son of Peter. I have that Robert married Dorothy Frith in 1766 in Poole, St James. Their daughter, Mary, was christened (non conformist) in 1768 and married John Saunders (also a non conformist) in 1787 Poole. I haven't found any siblings for Mary and am trying to find out more about her parents in an effort to do so, and to learn more about the family. The Charratt surname carried on as a second Christian name in the Saunders family right up until at least the end of the 19th century.
Janis, I will email you with my transcript of Peter Charratt's Will as well as the original copy from the NRO. Yours Vicwinann
