Has anyone gotten a copy of a Victorian Inquest Document.
Could you please tell me
How to get a copy. Thanks.
Can they be obtained from the Public Record Office in Ballarat, Victoria ?
Or do you have to go to Melbourne ?
I have looked up the Inquest Index and have the reference numbers.
Thanks.

Thanks for the link, I have read all this information before and I still don't understand exactly how it works.
Ok so the page says
Please Note: Inquest Deposition Files are only available for research at the Victorian Archives Centre Reading Room.
Where is the V A C R R ?
Ballarat ? Melbourne ?
I would like, if possible, advice from someone who has actually gotten a copy of an inquest themselves and how they did it and the cost. Thanks heaps.

Someone who has viewed a Victorian inquest more recently than I have will, I hope, answer.
However, my understanding is that the VACRR is the joint facility of the National Archives and the PROV and that it is located in North Melbourne. And that one has to go there in person to view an inquest report (or should that be )

Hi Emma
I am also trying to view an inquest in Victoria. I too went to the website and found my inquest, I clicked order as I thought I would be able to pay online for it. The next thing I know is a message telling me it will be available in North Melbourne the next day!! I live and work in Bendigo, so getting to North Melbourne during the week is impossible. Another thing to put on my wish list (a weekday in North Melb ). I emailed the PROV and explained my mistake and asked them to cancel the request. They sent me back a nice email telling me thay had withdrawn the request, they also suggested paying someone to do the look-up for me, but I don't know any researchers in Melbourne . I will have the North Melb address on my home computer, I am at work now, (and very busy as you can tell ), but I can post it tonight if you want it.
If you find out how to get them without going to North melbourne please share that info with me
Cheers

Emma,
The links that others have posted explain how to obtain a copy of an Inquest.
I have actually visited the PROV & NAA and obtained copies of Inquests for my ancestors.
Sometimes the Inquest Despositions have numerous pages, others only a few. You ask them to photocopy all the pages or only the ones you think are relevant. I can't remember the exact cost now, perhaps fifty cents per page??.
You are not able to read them at the Ballarat PRO.
Yes you would have to go to North Melbourne PROV.
Lones,
The PROV is opened on the second and last Saturday of the Month. Opening for May 10 & 31. June 14 & 28. 9am - 4.30 pm.

Hi Sarra
Thank you for that information, I shall try to get to Melbourne on one of those weekends, wouldn't you know it, I have to go on the 25th May (daughters birthday )
Emma,

Sarra
Do you mean photocopying when you are there, or can you get them to photcopy them and send them to you? Sorry, I'm a bit dense, but not sure what you mean
Thank you for the dates, I really appreciate your help
Cheers

Hi Lones,
Sorry I forgot to mention, they photocopy the pages you request, then post to you, or you can pickup at a later date.
I don't think they have changed the procedure.
Lones your not dense, it can be rather confusing trying to access records.

Hi all
I often go to the PROV on Saturdays, when they are open. If you PM me the details and address, I will obtain copies for you.
