Hi please could someone help me I am trying to trace the Dovey Family .
My Husbands Grandfather Thomas Sydney Dovey was born abt 1884 Guildford Surrey. he married Elizabeth Dixon in liverpool do not know about date sorry
I am trying to get any information on who his parents were & I am told he had a sister called Bertha and a sister called Annie Now i don't know how correct the information is. and also is the Dovey Family originally from Guildford if not where are they from .
I would appreciate any information .

Could this be him on the 1891 census:
Thomas (unreadable character) Dovey, Son, Scholar, age:6, living at Worcestershire - 93 Brunswick Road, Kings Norton - born: Farnham Surrey
The father is listed as Thomas Dovey 41, born: Kidderminster, Worcsestershire
The mother is listed as Esther Dovey 33, born: Aylestone, Leicestershire
there are 3 other siblings, Jemima, 7, born Spalding, Lincolnshire; Joslyn, 14 or 4 (enumerators mark right through it), born Bridlington, Yorkshire; Harold, (can't read age as again the enumerator has gone mad), born Farnham, Surrey.
The father's occupation is Assurance Agent 'Life' which would explain why the family has been moving around a lot.
The Farnham registration district boundaries changed frequently, so if they were in one of the villages to the east of Farnham then it would have fluctuated between Farnham, Farnborough & Guildford registration districts down the years. This would suggest looking for a baptism in places like Seal, Tongham, Ash, Ash Vale, Compton, & other local parishes.

For his birth registration, I'd concur with Barbara on the Bridgnorth one, because his family were obviously highly mobile & probably just registered on their next stop.

Sorry not My Thomas Dovey i am afraid i Found out today that My Thomas Samuel (not Sydney Like i was told ) died in 1978 aged 71 so he was born 3rd January 1907 not as i predicted sorry but he is still a puzzle he is not in the search family org web site & can only find him on the lancashire marriage site married Nellie Dixon in 1930.
I now know that he was born In Peasmarsh if that helps.

Hi folk
Just got off the phone to a Aunty of my husbands she has told me she has the birth cerificate of Thomas samuel dovey (she was the last person i would have thought to have it)
Anyway 3/1/1907 born Privett Mother Fanny Quintron Hayes born 1871 Father George William Dovey I have found them and only fanny's mother no father but unable to find George's only know he was born 1876 Guildford could you please help

the marriage registration if you wish to buy the certificate:
Mar 1893 Petersfield 2c 191
Dovey George and Hayes Fanny Quinton
That should give you both fathers' names and occupations
When you say you've found them, do you mean in the 1901 & 1891 census?
According to the 1901, George was born in 1872 in East Meon, Hampshire, not Guildford, 1891 states b.1868 but still East Meon.

George's birth registration:
Dec 1867 Petersfield 2c 133 Dovey George
that would hopefully give you both parents' names
I see George was living with his aunt in 1891 & 1881, and his grandparents in 1871, have you gone any further back in the census to see who their children were and so who his father might have been - or mother if she was unmarried?

DOVEY Thomas TITHERIDGE Mary Ann
so, their children, possible parents for George: Mary b.1845, George b.1848, Charlotte b.1850, or Willliam b.1855
You may need to get a couple of certs, but if George was living with relatives, it's possible he was the son of one of the girls.

Here's Fanny's birth registration:
Jun 1871 Droxford 2c 115 Hayes Fanny Quinton
in 1891 she was a servant living away from home, but oddly, in 1881 she and her brother Edwin Thomas Hayes were stepchildren to George Dovey b.1825, Privett, maybe George's grandfather's brother??!
that marriage was Dec 1876 Droxford 2c 243
DOVEY George to Hayes Ann
now to find Ann Hayes first marriage
