Thomas Roberts & Mary Ann Walder 1864 Marriage

What happened to Mary Wickham bc1779?
« on: Sunday 11 May 08 13:04 BST (UK) »

Hi

My 4xgreat grandmother was born Amelia Wickham, the illegitimate daughter of Mary Wickham in March 1801 in Twineham, Sussex. Amelia married John Walder in 1818 aged 17.

But what happened to her mother Mary Wickham? She was was born in 1779 in Bolney, the daughter of William and Mary Wickham, alias Blinc(k) or Blanc(k).

I have looked through burials, censuses, marriages and cannot find any trace of Mary Wickham after she gave birth to Amelia in 1801 in Twineham. A fresh pair of eyes might help if you could please?

Thanks

Ben

Ben, there is a settlement certificate for what looks like the father & mother of Mary Wickham on the online data base for the West Sussex Records Office  http://www.westsussex.gov.uk/ccm/navigation/libraries-and-archives/record-office/

Collection  Bolney
Series  Overseers of the Poor: Settlement
SubSeries  Indemnity Bonds and Certificates
Item  Certificates of settlement  A (1717 - 1756) and B (1760 - 1782))
Level Piece

CatalogueNo Par 252/32/1/1

Title Settlement certificate: William WICKHAM als BLANK

Date 16 Apr 1762

Description Subject: William WICKHAM als BLANK; married: Mary WICKHAM als BLANK; Slaugham

Child: Elizabeth WICKHAM als BLANK, infant

This is undoubtedly their marriage;

Bolney, West Sussex,   22 Mar 1761:
Subject: William WICKHAM, Slaugham (als BLINC)
 Mary STEDMAN

Mary would appear to be one of, if not, the youngest child.
I don't know if you've tried this resource  http://www.familyhistoryonline.net/  there are several burials in the name of Mary Wickham in Sussex.  It's a pay-per-view site but well worth the small fee.

;DBlink & Blanc sounds like a comedy act  Grin
