You could watch it on BBC iPlayer, if you don't have BBC4.

Thoroughly, thoroughly enjoyed that. One of best programmes I have seen for while.

Thanks again for the nudge!

I watched it again, wasn't it marvellous.  I wonder who traced Christina through all those records.

Michael Wood is a very engaging story teller, and this programme was brilliant - a wonderful insight into the life and times of an 'ordinary' person which is something we rarely get to see with history programmes!

It was nice to see Michael Wood doing some medieval English history again - I remember the first TV programmes he made "In Search Of ..." about pre-Norman Invasion leaders which really opened my eyes to vast tracts of usually neglected history.

I thought all the programmes in the BBC Medieval season were good. Clarissa Dickson Wright brought the cookery side to life with the one she did.

The BBC can make as many good quality history programmes as they like.  Cheesy Cheesy

I thought one of the most interesting bits of a truly fascinating programme was the brief clips of Laxton (Notts) where they had the communal strip system at least until 1986, especially the men 'sowing broadcast' in 1933. They were so fast, and did it so rythmically!
That was one of the best history series I've seen on the Beeb for ages, yet they hid it away on BBC4

Oh yes weren't those old clips so lovely!
I think the BBC underestimates the amount of interest these programmes would generate on national tv.

Another absolutely brilliant one was 'Coal House' on BBC2 Wales, not plans for it to go national although I think they are repeating it, and it was on the iplayer.
Three families travelled back in time to 1927 and lived in miners' houses in the Rhondda.  But they could have been anywhere, perhaps at the same time or earlier.  Men went to the pit, as did the 14 yr old boys.  No running water, oil lights, cook on the range as well as heat water there.

The Gutenberg press was also another gem.

I think the BBC would easily sell these programmes to the USA.
