WALKER family of Whitkirk, Leeds
« on: Sunday 11 May 08 17:17 BST (UK) »

Can anyone help me find a marriage for my 3xGt Grandfather JOHN WALKER (a common name I know!). I know that his son Thomas (born circa 1808) married a Martha Bywater (I believe she was born in 1819 and was from Mirfield and married Thomas in 1839). Thomas and Martha had 4 children - Mary Ann, Elizabeth, John and Alfred Thomas (my Gt Grandfather).  They lived in Whitkirk, Leeds.

As far back as this the family were all farmers or agricultural labourers.

Also if it's not too much to ask, any help in tracing a marriage for Martha's Father, John Bywater would be much appreciated. Embarrassed

Hello Busybod

Don't know if you have this information  (from IGI )

Martha Bywater / baptised Mirfield / 11th October 1818

William Bywater / baptised Mirfield / 29th August 1813
Thomas Bywater / baptised Mirfield / 24th March / 1816
Henry Bywater / baptised  Mirfield  / 18th March 1821

In each case , father was John, and mother was Hannah

Marriage 6th January 1803 Mirfield  John Bywater to HANNAH MARSDEN

Not sure if it yours, but it is a start

Regards

Hi Jeannie

Thank you so very much for your prompt response to my query.  Yes, it does look very much as though this could be my Martha Bywater as it appears to be only a year out from my D.o.B for her!  So that's filled in another gap on the chart!!

Just as a point of interest - I've only been doing this for 9 months, could you tell me what IGI is?Could I look at it for the marriage records of John Walker?

Many thanks once again.  Kind regards,

Lynne.......

IGI is found on the Latter Day Saints website.

familysearch.org

it is a free site, but not every event is recorded. I always tend to look 5 years +/- a particular event......

Hope this helps
