Hello Jean. Here is a nice stone for Fothergill. I hope it one of yours.
At the foot of this stone rests the mortal remains of Richard Fothergill, who after an active, useful, and benevolent life, finished his earthly pilgrimage in the seventieth year of is age. As he had lived, he died, in a full and firm reliance on the promises of the gospel.
Fifty years of this good mans valuable life were occupied in the faithful discharge of his duty as a schoolmaster.
Thirty six years he held the office of Parish clerk, and died, as a Christian ought to die, in love and charity with all mankind, on the twenty sixth day of September AD 1821.

Hi Adam,
I wonder if I could trouble you for the MI's related to the surname Thornton. I am particularly interested in Johns and Williams if there are too many to put up on screen.
Thanks for all the hard work you are doing, it is a godsend to so many of us who can't get to County Durham very easily.
Regards,
Kate.

Hello Kate. There is not a John or a William Thornton at Witton le Wear
There is Elizabeth Ann and Robert at Witton le Wear
Sam and Jane at Hunwick.
Rebecca and George William at Willington.
The above are all from the 1920'--1940's
And a Mary, who was a servant at Brancepeth Castle in the early 1800's
