I live in Canada and ordered films for Pulford two months ago. They are still on back order. I am wondering if anyone who has access to the Cheshire record office could do a look up for me. I am trying to trace my family up to the present and really need the death notice of Albert Roberts. The deaths have not been recorded by the Cheshire BMD as yet.
Albert Roberts born 1884 Wrenbury m. Margaret Ellerton born Acton. Children are Arthur 1915, William Allan 1917 and Margaret Annie 1919 and all born in Pulford/Poulton.
I need to know when and where Albert died and witness'as well as the marriage of son William Albert.
Thank you so much if you can help me with this.
Dianne

Hi Dianne and welcome to Rootschat
This is the marriage from Cheshire BMD so hopefully somebody may be kind enough to look it up for you in the parish records
It is shown on freebmd as in the December quarter which will help narrow the search
Cheshire Marriage indexes for the years: 1910
ELLERTON Margaret A ROBERTS Albert Acton, St Mary Cheshire Central 101/5/12
Re: death of Albert. As he was only born in 1884 - he could have lived until the 1950/60's (unless you have a rough idea of the year he died)
Transcriptions for that period will be some time before they are online so your only recourse is to trawl the full GRO index which can be searched online if you have an Ancestry subscription or at www.findmypast.com which is a paysite
If you live near to an LDS Family Resource Centre - you could check if they have a copy there
The same problem arises for the marriage of son William as he was born 1917 so would only have married in the late 1930's or early 1940's

Thanks for replying Carole:
I have checked Ancestry and he is not listed. It seems that GRO gets the information from Cheshire BMD and since they have not yet put the deaths from Pulford online I need to depend on the Pulford film. It can take up to 3 months for films to arrive in our local FHS. Its been two months now since I ordered mine. I am hoping that someone who uses the Cheshire History Centre could perhaps do a quick look at the film for me if there is no cost. It would be from 1919.

Thanks Andy for correcting my misinformation.
I ordered the Parish Records for Pulford which include buriels from 1913 to 1956 as well as marriages to 1972 which covers the children. I realize they might not have stayed there since Albert worked on farms but I need to start somewhere. I know they were there in 1919. I have actually phoned overseas to some of the long lasting farmers and spoken to them personally as to whether they have any records kept. I have also checked the Bickerton and Wrenbury films due to the parents of Albert coming from those places originally. There was nothing on the films for anyone. When I was over last year I also went to the graveyards (except Pulford because I did not have the info yet) and only found an uncle of Albert but he did not have any children.

Thanks for trying Ali.
Since Albert was born 1884 he would have only been 68 yrs in 1952. I didn't know there was a National Buriel Index though. Thank you for that.

Hi Dianne
Do you have exact dates of births for Albert & Margaret's children, Arthur, William Allan & Margaret Annie?. The reason I ask is that the death indexes after 1984 includes date of birth. I had a quick look and I may have found a death for William Allan Roberts. According to FreeBMD his birth was registered March qtr 1917 and a William Allan Roberts, born 9th January 1917 died March 1993 in Wrexham Maelor registration district in the county of Clwyd (North Wales). Pulford is only about 5 miles from Wrexham. Its not conclusive but looks very promising. William was the only William A registered in March Qtr 1917 although I suppose its possible that another William Roberts added the middle name Allan. It may be worth getting his birth certificate to see if the birthdate matches, if so then the informant on his death certificate may be able to be tracked down.

WOW! Andy you are right on. I have the birth certificate that a kind Cheshire rootsweb lister obtained for me a month ago:
Birth: January 9, 1917 William Allan to Albert Roberts and Margaret Ann nee Ellerton, residence Poulton and registered January 30, 1917
Birth: August 25, 1919 Margaret Annie.....reg. Sept 18, 1919
Birth: Arthur 1910 but died at age 1 year
I am familiar with Wrexham because I have been there twice. Last year a cousin (Vaughan) I found from genealogy took me all around the area. The Roberts are from Hope originally but moved to Malpas. I am coming over again next year and so want to meet some of my Roberts clan.
I've been searching all day for Alberts' death and never realized that the indexes from 1884 upwards gave the birth dates.
Thank you so much. I will order the certificate right now even though its almost midnight here.

Andy, I have been trying to find the order numbers for GRO but the free BMD's only go up to 1884. I also checked the Ancestry index but couldn't find anything. How did you get the information please. You sure are a big help.

Hi Dianne
When you go to the Ancestry Birth Marriage and death Indexes there are 3 sections, Complete BMD Index ranges & images 1837-1983 (you need to be a subscriber)
Partial FreeBMD Indexes & Images 1837-1983 (this actually is sourced from FreeBMD but is sometimes a little bit behind)
Complete BMD Indexes 1984-2005 (you need to be a subscriber)
The GRO changed its indexing format from 1984 and the indexes can be searched by name, registration District, county, month & year of death and date of birth. The following is the information you need
William Allan Roberts
Date of birth - 9th January 1917 Death Registration - March 1993 Age at death (est) - 76 Registration District - Wrexham Maelor Inferred County - Clwyd Register Number - A76 Entry Number - 69
I haven't actually ordered a post 1984 certificate but I assume that it asks for the year and then takes you to the correct form to complete.

Thank you so much Andy!
I was able to order the certificate with the usual form and I found the paid Ancestry site 1984 plus with the info you gave me.
I have learned so much from you and to find my family in the 1990's after searching for so many years is phenomenal. Now I can look for them. I have a friend living near Wrexham so I will put him to work:-) as soon as the certificate arrives with addresses etc.
