I have been looking for someone in the 1891 Census for sometime and think I could possibly have found her. Only problem is that she is an inmate at the Brighton Home for Female Penitents, Finsbury Road, Brighton.
The writing is not very good but it does look like her name
Jane BENNETT born 1870 Chichester Sussex
RG12/806 Folio 136 Page 53
Are there any record for this institution that could give some clue to whether or not it was her? She married in 1900 and I have no reason to suspect that she had any sort of criminal tendencies or background.

Hi
If you compare the enumerators numerals with other entries, her age appears to be 28 - not 20.
I did a Google search and found this link which describes the institution. I doubt any records will still exist as it was a home for prostitutes

I cannot decide whether it is 20 or 28, there don't appear to be any Jane BENNETT or BONNETT born Chichester around 1863 in other censuses.
I saw the mention of the institution on that page, just trying to tap into some local knowledge on records etc.
