Hi again,
Sorry but could I stretch the friendship and ask if there is a death record for Mary Jemott. I really have no idea when she died. I only know that she came out on the Indefatigable with her husband William Knight Jemott ( is that normal for convicts to bring their wives on the same ship with them?) and that they had a few children here - one being Catherine who is my descendant. I am assuming that she died after her husband ( 1847) because I think I have read something about her being a widow.
Also if possible the births of any Jemott children from 1812 - 1825
Thanks again Michelle ( I can't believe how quickly you get information on here!!)

the only other Jemott listed is the following which I guess you would have
JEMOTT CATHERINE aged 21 married Browne Thomas aged 28 30/12/1840 Registration Place: HOBART Registration Number: 684/1840 Reference: RGD 37
So one could say she was born in Tasmania in 1819c the Indefatigable was the first convict ship to Tasmania, do you have records to verify that they came together, only he is listed as a convict on the Tasmanian Archives
regards Jenn

Hi Jenn, Thanks for trying for me again. I wonder if the name is spelt differently and that is why there are no matches. I know that there were at least 4 children. John and William, Catherine. Mary was born before they arrived as far as I can tell. I am also wondering if there was a Lucy? I noticed that in some of the records on the Tasmanian archives William's name was written as Jamott or Jemmott??
I have a shipping record scanned that says she was on Indefatigable but I am wondering about it because I wouldn't have thought that they allowed wives and children on board with convicts ( except if they were soldiers famly, etc). It says on the record that she came free. There is no other info on it except that the ship masters name was Cross.
I definitely have to get back to Tassy and try and get more info. The last time we were there I snuck into the archives for about an hour just to see if there was info but didn't stay because it was my hubby and my anniversary and I thought it was a bit rude to spend the day doing research. I will need days in that place - it is so good.
Thanks again. If you do happen to come across anything I would love to hear.
Cheers Michelle

Thanks Raylen,
That is the Lucy Jemott I had found and I thought since it is such an unusual name I might be able to find her in Tasmania easily. No such luck. Thanks for your help though.
Thanks Sue, I am wondering if that is my William even though the spelling is different. He was sent to Australia for piracy and was a good seaman so it would not be too far stretched to think that he might have done some work / or travelling once he was pardoned.
Cheers Michelle

Hello there
re Raylen's finding in Victoria
the Victorian marriage certificate should give her parents name her mother's maiden name may be there.
The Tasmanian archives also has a research facility, it doesn't take them too long at all and the fees are reasonable to boot.

Hi chell I've posted some info under the topic heading "Jemott lookup" which may be of interest to you. My wife is a direct descendant of Catherine Jemott and Thomas Browne. Noted some interesting facts from RootsChat to follow up.

Thanks for that info Genni. They look like they could be mine with spelling mistakes. I will see where I can go with it.
