Would some kind person be able to look up the baptism of James Moss on 15 Oct 1817 at Caddington please? The IGI shows just his mother, Martha Moss, so for a long time I'd assumed that Martha was an unmarried woman. However, I've now found a reference in the Hertfordshire Session Rolls (they lived in the bit of Caddington which was anciently in Hertfordshire) of a maintenance order from 1815 for Elizabeth, daughter of John Bigg, butcher of Markyate and Martha Moss, wife of Thomas Moss who is absent in the East Indies. I'm now wondering if this Martha is the same woman who was the mother of James two years later - hopefully the way she's described on the 1817 baptism will help. Any help gratefully received. Richard.
