I have a marriage of Mary Reeves of Avebury, Wiltshire to Emmanuel Lapping (transcribed as Lappen) at Temple, Bristol on 18 January 1808.
I am trying to confirm whether or not she is the same Mary Reeves b 1781 in Avebury to William Reeves and Ann Picket. (from LDS site).
Would the marriage certificate of Mary and Emmanuel give the names of her parents? I don't want to send away for it if it doesn't.

Civil registration began in England and Wales on 1st July 1837 which is when the father's name and occupation was added to the marriage format (the mother's name has never been a requirement) and when marriage certificates started. Before that there were only church marriage registers which contained more limited information see this webpage for examples

If the marriage was by licence there may be more information contained in the marriage licence (allegation) if that has survived.

Hi Mary,
Sorry, but the register entry did not give much additional info. They were both of this parish, there was a big blob over the part that said by Banns or Licence so that couldnt be read. Witnesses were John Doddrill?, who also witnessed the other marriages on the same page so was probably a church official, and Joseph Wride? name not very clear.
So not many clues to help you decide.

Many thanks for taking the trouble to check this out for me. You are right - the witnesses names don't help much.
Mary came from Avebury, Wilts, but my great great grandfather came from Almondsbury - Mark Wither(s) born 16 Dec 1820 and baptised 14 June 1821. His parents were Mark Wither and Hester Gastrell who married 16 April 1814 at St. Stephen, Bristol. That's as far back as I can go at the moment. It would be nice to have a couple of photos of Almondsbury if it's not too much trouble.
By the way - is Thornbury more or less interchangeable with Almondsbury?
