I'm looking for more information on mu husbands paternal grandmothers parents. His grandmother was Catherine McIntyre, born April,1877,in Polmont.
Her parents were
James McIntyre born about 1857 in Ireland,Ancestry shows his parents as being from Scotland
Catherine Pendergrass born about 1857 in Muiravonside .I've found her birth on SC which shows she was born to John Pendergrass a coal miner and Catherine Carmichael in December 1857
I found the family in the 1881 Scottish census as living in Redding Row,Polmont, with the following children
Annie age 1,born Polmont
Katie M age 3 born Polmont (her birth shows as Catherine McMichael)
James age 5 born Polmont
I first found the family in Sugar Notch in Pennsylvania when I began my search so I know they emigrated to the US,but can't find that.
I'm trying to trace both James McIntyre, and Catherine Pendergrass back ,so any and all help would be greatly appreciated by me.

Hi
Scotlands People have the marriage of James and Catherine in Muiravonside:
24 October 1874 at Craigs after Banns according to the forms of the Church of Scotland.
James McIntyre, labourer, bachelor, aged 19, living Polmont. Parents James McIntyre, joiner and Ann m.s. looks like McKinnon
and
Kitty Pendergrass, outdoor worker, spinster, aged 18, living Muiravonside. Parents John Pendergrass, labourer, deceased and Catherine m.s. McMichael
As all parents were alive after 1855, it is possible for you to find their death certs and thus, their parents' names, if they died Scotland:
www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk
Search for them on the IGI www.familysearch.org first as they might well be listed in the online batches.
Regards

Added - witnesses to the marriage were John Moffat (?) and Maggie Carmichael

I think that this is likely to be the Pendergrass family in 187, entered on the form as Pender:
Rumford, Muiravonside
Catherine Pender, wid, 40, ? labr, b. Ireland Hugh, son, 20, miner, b. Muiravonside Catherine, dau, 13, scholar, b. Muiravonside John, son, 12, miner, b. Muiravonside Samuel, son, 9, b. Muiravonside

The Scotland People site, to which I gave you the link on my first post, has the death of a John Pendergrass, 1862, Muiravonside, aged 35.
You will be able to search the index, view and download the image of his death certificate for 6 units (£1.20). This should give you his parents names.

The same site has the death of Catherine Pender, m.s. McMichael, 1893, Muiravonside, aged 66.
Again, this can be downloaded from the site.
I can't locate James McIntyre on the 1871 census with any confidence.

so instead of using Soundex, use that method?I'm pretty new to this research stuff,so any hints are more than happily taken!
Actually Catherine McIntyres oldest son was named William Pender Watt, and I had wondered if it might have come from a last name.My husbands middle name is Stering-Catherine also had a daughter named Katherine Sterling, and I've begun to understand the naming process somewhat although sometimes it gets dreadfully confusing!!
