Thorney Baptism look up please
« on: Monday 12 May 08 11:23 BST (UK) »

Hi

I am looking for the baptism record for Henry Chapman (Blacksmith) born abt 1766 (give or take). He moved to Durham and had his first child in 1786. He may have married in Thorney or in Durham.

If there is such a record I would be interested in any marriage that fits his parents.

Any help much appreciated.

Hi, Tony,
I'm hoping to get to the CCRO next Tuesday, so will look up this baptism for you.  Not quite sure what you mean by: "...any marriage that fits his parents."

Hi and thanks for your offer of help

This is what I meant - I am looking for:

1. The baptism record for Henry Chapman, a smith, born at Thorney (from his daughter's marriage certificate). He married abt 1785 and so was probaly born abt 1763.

2. Any evidence of his marriage to Sarah Rippeth from Ryton, County Durham. The first child was born in Ryton in 1786, so presumeably he married abt 1785. My bet is that he was married in Durham having gone there for work. Saying that, no evidence of such a marriage has yet turned up.

3. If there is a baptism record and the father (at least) identified, I was hoping that there might be an identifiable marriage record for his parents.

Look forward to hearing from you.

Have you tried the Joiner Marriage Index at http://www.joinermarriageindex.co.uk/durham.php

It's very good for Co. Durham marriages

Hi

I have tried Joiner, also Durham on line records (reasoably good for Ryton) and also someone from Rootschat has also had a look at the parish records. Can find all the children, but no reference to marriage.

Tony,
Not at all successful this morning at the CCRO, I'm afraid.  The only CHAPMAN baptisms that I could find for that particular time were the following:
William son of William and Sarah CHAPMAN 17-02-1762
Sarah daughter of   William/Sarah 13-11-1763
Mary daughter of William/Sarah 07-02-1768
No other siblings in the time frame you gave me, and don't know if these were connected to your CHAPMAN family, sorry
