Hi,
Is there anyone out there that can assist me with a bit of research. I'm filling out a circular family tree chart for my Mother's side that goes back 5 generations (from Genes Reunited website) and seem to have hit a brick wall. I'm on the last generation (my 3xGt Grandparents) and would be grateful if someone could point me in the right direction. I have the following gaps -
BICKERDIKE - I am looking for a marriage for my 3xGt Grandfather JOHN BICKERDIKE. The only info I have on him is that he was born in Leeds in 1811 and he married Catherine ? She was born in 1816. Their son Matthew (my 2xGt Grandfather) was born in 1834. Matthew had a brother called John and they resided at Joy Cottage, York Road, Leeds.
ACKROYD - I am looking for a marriage for my 3xGt Grandfather WILLIAM ACKROYD. All I have on him is that he was born in 1801. According to the Census of 1841 he was an agricultural labourer and lived at Myrth (or Myrtle) Bank, Handsworth, Sheffield. He had 3 daughters, Ellen (b 1833), Anne (b 1834) and Eliza (my 2xGt Grandmother b 1836). The census does not mention a wife but lists a JANE BRIDLINGTON (female servant) aged 20 so I presumed his wife was deceased and he employed Jane to look after the children. But then I became a bit confused as I've found somewhere (don't know where) mention of a wife, Sarah (born 1802), so any help on sorting that one out would be much appreciated. LANGDALE - Am looking for a marriage for my 3xGt Grandfather WILLIAM. I think he would have been born early 1800's. His wife's name was ELIZABETH. Don't know her maiden name, can anyone suggest how I find out? I think William was a boot maker. They had a son GEORGE (b 1834) who married a FRANCES BEECROFT circa 1856. BEECROFT - Last but not least WILLIAM LANGDALE's son George. Can anyone tell me how do I go about finding out who his wife FRANCES'S parents were?
Well, I know it's an awful lot to ask, but hopefully some kind soul out there will be able to set me on the right track and this will complete my research (I hope).

Hi Willow,
Sorry to bother you again so soon, but can you help me. I've been on the IGI searching for my 3xGt Grandfather's marriage (WILLIAM ACKROYD b 1801) to Sarah?, but I've found at least 3, none of which seem to fit. He was born in Sheffield and these marriages were in either Bradford or Halifax. They all fit in that the spouse's name was Sarah. I suppose it's possible it could be one of these, but how do I know, if it's not a stupid question. What I've done is taken his year of birth (1801) and added on 21 years and used that as a rough guide.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Ta.

Hi Willow,
Thanks once again for your prompt response, I must admit I don't know what I'd have done without you!, but it's all getting a bit complicated now. I've thought about it long and hard and I'm beginning to wonder whether the William and Sarah you mention in the 1851 census are indeed mine as it lists William as a Cordwainer and according to the 1841 census he was an agricultural labourer. Also the 1851 census lists him as being born in Halifax and I understood that he was from Handsworth, Sheffield. Also the dates of birth are about 4 years out. According to the 1851 census he was 46 years old, which would make his dob 1805. I've got his dob as 1801.
The interesting point is it does list him as having two 16 yr old daughters (are they twins do you think?), one named Mary - if your theory is right I suppose this could be after the first wife. But there is no mention of Eliza (who in 1851 would have been 15) or Anne and Ellen. So, I'm confused to say the least. What do you think?

Hi Willow,
Seems like once again I am in your debt. I think the one at Thorpe Hall Farm looks like the right one. It lists William as being born at Headlington, I've no idea where that is, but the rest of it would seem to fit, although there is still no mention of the other 2 daughters, Ellen and Anne. But thanks once again, you've been a great help, I couldn't have managed without you. I'll keep looking.
