Hello Rootschatters, After nearly getting through my brickwall, I find that I am still stuck, so I thought I would put out my information in the hope that someone might help.
I had been looking for the birth details of my paternal grandmother, Florence Whit(t)ington, who married in London in 1915. A man took her son (my grandfather) to a hospital in 1918 and never returned to pick him up.
I believe I have found my Florence (b. 1898) and her family living in Brighton, recorded in the 1891 and 1901 census. Father: James Henry Whitington born abt. 1869 (butcher and carman) Mother: Mary Alice Hawthorne born. 1865 died. 1900 Siblings: Annie (b. 1892) and Ernest (b. 1894)
James Henry remarried after the death of his first wife. He married Caroline Seppings Standford in 1900 and as far as I can see they had two children - Robert (b.1911) and Irene (b.1913)
I know that Florence lived in London between 1915 and 1918. But after that I have no idea. I would dearly like to know what happened to her.
So if anyone has any ideas of what I might be able to do please let me know.

Julie, How awful.....a man took your grandfather to a hospital & never picked him up ..... To find Florence we would have to know who she married in 1915 (she was only 17???)
Hi It would help if you said who she married in 1915. Do you have that marriage certificate? Do you have your grandfather's birth certificate? What are the details on those? There is a very long gap after the marriage of James in 1900 before the children are born so may be there are others. Andrea

She was born Florence Mary Whittington, so it may be worth looking at this:
Marriage Sep 1922 Salisbury Wesley B Horner Florence M Annetts
The birth entry for their child in 1927 gives the mother's maiden name as Annetts (rather than Whittington) so it is more likely to be the Florence May Annetts born in 1904 I'm afraid (although Wesley was born in 1895).
Sorry, ignore this. I see there were two Florence Whitingtons born in 1898 in Sussex and this one died shortly afterwards.
Florence Whitington married an Australian soldier named John Alfred Henry Annetts. The child she had was not his, from other evidence I have it seems the child was fathered by another soldier Florence began living with when she briefly lived in Weymouth, while her husband was fighting in France. On her husbands return to Australia she tried to emigrate but when John Annetts found out the child was not his he ceased contact with Florence, and I have no idea what became of her after that.
