Anyone have any information on Charles Foster born abt1850 in Kingsbury, Middlesex
(on his army record ) Fathers John Foster's profession is given as Stonemason ( dead by Charles's marriage in Portsmouth 1873). Searched 1851 and 1861 census but there is no one born in Kingsbury. He joined 77th Middlesex regiment in 1870 (cant find him on the 1871 census) transfered to 67th Hampshire regiment 1873 14 years in India returning 1888, so he is not on the 1881 census. The family is on the 1891 census. Charles died in 1898.

Hi,

Possible for Charles in 1871, transcribed as FESTER,

1851  RG10/1136  f.63  p.14 Portsmouth
Clarence Barracks

Charles FOSTER    private    Unm    18    Private    Middlesex London

I realise that he is slightly younger than you wanted but he is in Portsmouth, right for his marriage Smiley and looking at the first pages of this set of images the officers belong to the 77th Regiment, headed by Major Humphrey L COLQUHOUN (transcribed as COLGESHOUN).
