Baker Family from Ewhurst
« on: Tuesday 13 May 08 07:21 BST (UK) »

I am trying to find out information about the Parents of John Baker,
Christened in Ewhurst 15-02-1729. John Married Francis Milham 23-04-1752.
I have no information about John's Parents (believed to be James and Susanne Baker) and his grand parents (names unknown).
I have no idea how far this family goes back. I live south of Perth on the West Coast of Australia and find chasing English records very difficult from this area.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated

I assume this is Ewhurst near Cranleigh in Surrey.

You might be more succesful if you post a message to the Surrey board.

In general terms, as you are so far beyond the widely-accessible records (i.e. censuses and civil registation), you really need to locate the parish records and probably a local history society.

I'm sure the folks on the Sussex board will be able to advise you.

I appreciate your geographical difficulties; I'm in the right hemisphere, but not exactly close to any parish records either.

My tip would be to provide as much info as you can when you post a message.

Good luck.
