Four people in need of a clean!

Hi,
This photo is taken from a negative which I scanned & reversed, but it is not as good as I hoped.  Can you help?  Any tips for dealing with old negs?

Sadly, there is too much damage to get a faithful reproduction - this is my effort.  No 1 is your original photograph.

POSTEES: If possible, PLEASE, scan your images at 300 - 600 dpi, for both ease of restoration and best results
