Hello Rootschatters

I've found the burial of someone and been given the burial references.  Apparently, the cemetary will be able to provide "documentation" for a small fee.  What kind of information is this likely to contain? Is it just going to relate to the number and/or position of the grave or could there be personal information there? If so, would there be more or less info than could be found on the death cert?

Hi,

Personally I would ask the Cemetery Office  exactly what the fee for documentation includes.  It may include other family members buried in the same grave or not.  The usual burial records that I have come across vary considerably.  The standard is name, date of death (sometimes), date of burial, last place of residence and occasionally what they died of.    The icing on the cake is if the documentation they provide includes all the details for everyone buried in the same grave and who purchased the grave.  Providing of course that it is not a "common" grave. 

Ask them and if all the information is for the one person only and you already have the death certificate then it probably isn`t worth it.
