Rose Lipman Library -- Hackney
« on: Monday 12 May 08 04:25 BST (UK) »

Hello all  Smiley

Would anyone be visiting the Rose Lipman Library, who would have the time to find some information for me from Electoral records about 1930.

My Father and g/parents lived in the same house from 1920, and I would like to find out who else lived with them.

Hi Lyn,

You could check with Hackney Council & see if they hold the Electoral Rolls for 1930.

If they don't have them, - they might be with the Metropolitan Archives.

Cheers, Romilly.

Hi Lyn,

Sounds like Hackney are a bit more organised than some Borough's that I've dealt with!

Hopefully that Library is accessible for you, - if not, you could try giving the Archivist there a ring...& see if they would do a look-up for you.

Best Wishes, Romilly Smiley

Once again Romilly, why didn't I think of that   Roll Eyes. As you can see I've changed the wording on my posting. If I don't get anything positive from it I'll certainly try phoning. Thank's for pointing me in the right direction.

Just a point to remember, only women over the age of 30 will be shown on an Electral Roll from 1918 to 1928, after 1928 women over the age of 21 will be shown.

I have always found the Rose Lipman very helpful when I had occasion to visit, a good few years ago the archivist at the time & I spent a hilarious half an hour reading the report in a local newpaper circa 1861 about the local Pariochial Committee meeting where they were augueing about who was going to pay for the refreshments incured whe they went to check on a "house of ill-repute" .    You couldn't make it up, could you?  All I wanted to look for was a Coroner's Inquest report on a GGrandpa who had fallen in the river Lea & drowned.   I didn't find one but it was worth the time spent, give me an old newpaper & I will read it from beginning to end, love lookng at all the old adverts etc.  I had visions of these portly Victorian gentlemen sitting around inbibing in whatever refreshments they were having, smoking their cigars, & whatever else they had in mind.

You never know what you will come across.
