« on: Monday 19 May 08 04:00 BST (UK) »

Whay happened to great uncle Thomas?

Thomas satchwell was chr. 6/12/1840 Butlers marton, warwick.  His parent's were William Satchwell & Hannah Grantham.

1841 census    Piece HO107/1133/2
Thomas aged 1 was living with his parents at Butlers marston.

1851  HO107///h/5
Thomas aged 11 was a visitor at his grandparents home Brick Kiln, Pillerton priors, War, along with his Mother Hannah and brother George aged 5.

1861    RG9/2188
Thomas aged 22, a boarder, was living at Coleshill, War.

1871 Thomas aged 30 and his wife Mary & son William aged 2 were living at Tpwington (schedule no. 108) and living next door (Sch.No.109) was Thomas's brother George  with his wife Fanny & son George.

In 1874 Thomas brother George & family immigrated to NZ.  His brother's William & henry remained in England.  I have traced these three brother BUT what happened to Thomas??

I do have a death certificate for a Thomas Satchwell aged 78 who died 29/7/1918 at Lunatic Asylum, hatton, war.  There was also a Mary Satchwell living at the Asylum.

Is this my Thomas Satchwell and if so where was he in the intervening years from 1871 and did he have any other children??

Not everyone who was in these asylums was a lunatic, some were in the infirmery attached to many of those places.
Apparently the Warwick Records Office has the documents from Hatton, the following site may give you further information -
