I am looking for a death - I really don't know when, but my best guess from information available is 1940. I know he was alive and in the Northern Territory in 1938. According to the NT registry he did not die there (cost $30 to find this out). I tend to think he did, but cannot check that angle further, so I am trying other states. I have checked NSW Qld Vic and WA. I don't think he would have gone to Tas.
Name James Matthews - could maybe be James Edward Mathews - Mathews spelt with 1 or 2 T He was born 1885 under a completely different name - so I'm not sure parent names would help - but his mother was Susan, father James. His family had not seen him for 20 years by 1940. It is only recently that we found his alias name.
South Australia being close to the NT is my remaining hope
Tia
Trish
PS I don't think I have asked this question before but if so I will blame senior moments and apologise in advance - he is a true mystery man

Wow!!
I have been discussing this brick wall with Jenn - until recently I didn't think to try SA - can someone let me know what I have to do to buy the certificate
Thank you so much sidsmith - I am assuming it means he died in Adelaide, but usual residence was Darwin? I didn't mention it in my posting but his war service record (for WWI) has a comment that made me think he may have died 24 July 1940 - rather fits with the finding!!
My first ever South Australian person & what a one to find - the family mystery! I wonder why I have been on RootsChat for 4 years without asking this question! Could have saved the $30 I paid the NT
Trish
Hi Jenn
Given his habit of name changing it is possible that one of the burials could be him, but they seem doubtful - the only middle name I ever heard about was Edward - then again we haven't heard much of him since 1920.

Transcription from SAGHS is a full transcription of the death cert. Good value at $11 and the results are emailed.

Hello there Trisha
I didn't mean to confuse you , the one from the government is $36.75 as opposed to $11.00 from SAGHS a big difference for sure.
kind regard Jenn
