Hi Lisingreece,

It could be any one of several churches.  Do you have any more information to help the search?

No Jill I know nothing more just that it was Lincoln rather than a village nearby.

He used the names James, Charles and William for his sons.

Not very helpful I Know

Thankyou for your time

Hi Lis,

I haven't had any joy finding a baptism which is what I suspect you are really looking for but I found a couple of census entries which you may or may not have, and his death which I'm pretty sure you will have, but just in case:

1861 Census:  29 Princes St., Westminster (St. James), Middlesex.   RG9/60/7/1
John S. Foster/Head/Mar/49/Tailor & Clothier (Master Employing 8 men & 1 boy)/Lincoln, Lincs.
Amelia Foster/Wife/Mar/26/London (City)
James W. Foster/Son/Un/26/Clothing shopman/St. James, Westminster, Middx.
Amelia Foster/Dau/5/St. James, Westminster, Middx.
John Foster/Son/4/St. James, Westminster, Middx.
William Foster/Son/2/St. James, Westminster, Middx.
Charles Foster/Son/8 months/St. James, Westminster, Middx.
Susan Mitchal/Serv/Un/17/House Serv/Marylebone, Middx.

In the 1851 census he has a different wife whose name is indexed as 'Linsar N.' but could possibly be 'Susan N.' and whose age is listed as 54 but I think it's 50:

1851 Census:  Queen Rd. West?, Chelsea, Middlesex.   HO1071472/277/34
John S. Foster/Head/Mar/39/Tailor emp. 2 men/Lincoln.
****** N. Foster/Wife/Mar/50/Cambridge?
James W. Foster/Son/Un/15/App./Westminster/Middx.

FreeBMD Deaths:
John Snowdin Foster   July-Sept. Q of 1877   Westminster 1a   Page 281

Maybe you will find some of this useful and hopefully someone else will be able to come up with the baptism.

Thank you Jill, for your time and effort.

I have found the Census material, and have sent for the Marr Cert for the Amelia Marriage.

Best wishes Lis
