I am looking for any family members of M.L. (Peter) Gillingham his father was Frederick Morris (Maurice) Gillingham and his Mum was Florence Matilda Gillingham. Peter was Flight Crew on Sunderland Flying boat DW110 and we are trying to trace familys no matter how distant. They lived in 1944 at 8 Kevin Grove, Hook Rd, Surbiton, along with Eileen Florence and Joan and Peggy Gillingham. 1946 Electroral Reg. has Joan Maurice F and Peggy Gillingham listed, there is a Frederick Gillingham listed in the Street director and electroral register at 34 Frimley Rd Chessington from 1954 to 2007 I wonder if there is a connection.  Any onw know anyone looking for Gillinghams

Dyan, there are a few people on Rootschat who are researching the Gillingham name.  If you go to the bottom of this page you'll see a link to Your Surname Interests.  Once there go to search surnames under 'G'.  You can then contact those who are interested in this name.

Hi Helen

My connection is that Maurice Gillingham was a crew member on a Sunderland Flying Boat DW110 which crashed into the Blue Stack Mountains in Ireland in January 1944. My cousin was one of the pilots. Maruice Gillingham - whose father I now believe changed his name was killed in this crash, some of the families have been trying to trace the crew families as next year will be the 65th anniversary and we would like to mark the occassion. If you care to look on the webiste www.freewebs.com/dw110 you will see the information we have there.  There is nothing sinister in this - just that most of us did not know what happend to our family members and it has taken several of us many years of research.  You may like to view the Memorial Stone which is on the website.

Thank you for your reply Dyan.  Peter Gillingham would have been my uncle had he lived .. he was my mother's brother.  He was also a great schoolfriend of my father. Sadly my mother died last November - she always spoke of him and to this day there is a photograph of Peter in my father's living room. On occasions in the past I have tried to find out more information about that fateful flight, where Peter was buried etc. but have never had success.  We knew he crashed in Ireland but that was about it.  The website has so much information .. thank you.
Regards
Helen, England.
