Have you used FreeBMD (OK up to this time frame, pretty complete) to search for male Stenson marriages and just eyeball the spouse name to see if it looks close ?
Of course, they may not have married ..... have you looked for the surname in the 1901 census ?

If the wife had been married previously, then she would have married Mr Stenson under her first married name not her maiden name.
Worth thinking about?
The birth certificate should show if the mother had been married before.
