restoration please
« on: Wednesday 14 May 08 16:20 BST (UK) »

Hi all,

Have just been given a box of old photos from my husbands family & would love some work done on some of them if that is ok. Maybe I can post one a day for a few days!!!! You did such a brilliant job on the others I posted, thought you would be the ones to help if anyone can.

This is the first one, this is my husbands Mamgu with two of her 13 children, no wonder shes looking a bit washed out!!

It is such a terrrible photo I dont think anything can be done with it, but its worth a try, please.

Thank you Jan

Thanks Chris,

Thats really good, its good to be able to actually see faces, the baby looks so happy, its my husbands Auntie Dianna, she was always a happy soul, she died a few weeks ago, love her. The little girl would be his Auntie Lily, I have older photos of her as a little girl & she was gorgeous, just as she is in this photo.

Thanks again,
Well done, Jan

This photograph can be much improved but it will take many hours of patient work to do so.

I was surprised to find a fair bit of detail hiding in that faded pic Grin

Here is a repair from me, if I get a chance tomorrow I will see if I can do some more to it.

I have had a bit more of a play, think I managed to find a bit more detail.
At least she doesn't look like a bloke with a beard and moustache. Grin

Hi Karen, thanks.
I brought out most of the detail by just playing with contrast, and when the light areas became to bright, I then dulled that down a bit.  Then contrast again etc.
That made the darks extreme, so I dulled them down too, using paint though.

It seems to have worked Grin, the rest was just a bit of playing.

Not sure what is going on in the background, looks like they could be standing at the entrance to a glass house.   Undecided

Hi Margaret, Thanks for that, it looks brilliant, I was telling my husband about it last night in the car on the way out.  Will show him later when hes home, I think he will be so amazed, he will love it !!!

Thanks for all the time you must have put into it, quite a challenge I bet!!
