Which Jane Anne WHITE?Completed thank you
« on: Saturday 28 June 08 11:47 BST (UK) »

I have a marriage of Jane Anne White to Thomas Prince 18th April 1795 - Wanborough
Thomas came from Wanborough.
Now I have the death cert. of Jane Anne Prince in 1848 - age 80 years, which means she was born in 1767/8.
Now the only Jane White I can find that fits that age is Jane White bap 1867 Milton Lilbourne.
Parents: John and Elizabeth White.

How do I find out if I have the correct Jane Anne White?

Is it just guess work?   Any advice appreciated. - Sue - Australia

Hi,
Found what I think is Thomas's death (Freebmd) - just in case you don't already have it:
Thomas Maisey Price
Deaths Jun 1841 Swindon & co district (same as Jane Ann's) Vol 8 page 239
* Census taken 6 June, 1841
Unfortunately it doesn't say his age at death Sad
Was thinking that if we could find the burial reference/ grave that would tell us ages at death, etc (+ confirm they are together).
Burial might be on NBI which you can get on www.findmypast.com - actually, forget that - just done a search and it was negative Sad
So it's a case of trying to track done where they're buried - may be general/public cememtery, but as it's quite early for those (you would have to look for dates when they opened on local government websites)
or go through parish register burials.

Thank you Pauline,

My Thomas isnt Thomas Maysey/Maisey Prince.  Related but not mine.  My Thomas died in 1838 in Wanborough where he was the Parish Clerk.

Thomas Maisey/Maysey's mum was Ann Maisey.

Thanks for your help - Sue

Just notified of another post - will have a look now.

Thanks Pauline,

I would think he was buried in Wanborough but how would I find out?  Jane Anne died in Wroughton.

Thanks - Sue

Now you've given me his correct death entry for 1838 I've checked on findmypast for 1838 - still nothing. Shame, would make things so much easier Cry
However, been looking for Jane Ann on 1841 census and there are only 2 in Wilts, one born c. 1867 and one born c.1792, who is married to a John Prince - so it's looking as if it HAS to be the right one that you've found.
Only grave will probably confirm it, though - and I would think there should be one. Probably loads of the family - which would makes it a great find, as you might find more to help track back Smiley

Hope someone else comes up with some ideas for you.

Thanks Pauline for all your help.

Jane Ann called herself just Jane on the only census she was on and that was the 1841 when she was in Wroughton with her daughter Ann (Prince)Pickett and Charles Pickett.

I will keep looking and thanks again for the valiant effort!

Many thanks, Sue

Pleasure to help - can't be easy for you in, being so far away.
I see that Wroughton is only 3 or 4 miles from Wanborough, so she might still be buried with Thomas ( if he's there)
As he was parish clerk at Wanborough there's a great chance he is buried there.
Or if the family, and Jane, and moved to Wroughton, they might have had them both buried there - or Jane on her own + Picketts there later, maybe.
So, those would be the parish registers to check for a burial - and that's the only way you're going to be certian of her age at death.
If you contact the local archives office they might look at both parish registers for you, (free of charge maybe - stress how far away you are) especially as you know the exact dates of death from the death certificates.
You might be lucky and someone from rootschat might be going and look for you - try asking on a post, maybe.
Found this, if all else fails:
http://62.32.98.6/S10312UKStaff/OPAC/search/BrowseTitleList.asp
I'm visiting there in July with my FHS so could look then, if nothing else comes forth - but I hope something will.
Let me know how you get on.
