If your thinking of buying a flat screen Monitor Take Heed
« on: Wednesday 14 May 08 23:18 BST (UK) »

Hi Folks
Well i have finally after nearly two weeks got back on net and after four days fixed my email a few hours ago.I lost all in the P.C.Re-installation.Which brings me to the monitor,it turned out that was the problem cos it still didn't work:( After traipsing round all the the known local computer shops for a couple of afternoons.I found they cant be repaired, last week i went to the last shop asking why they cant be repaired. He pointed to two  monitors in the shop that he was selling with the chosen computer, one was on the way out the one got so hot it destroyed itself.Maybe that what happened two mine,it was only 2 years old.So i now have a nice knew one, funny thing is there is a guarantee Warranty with it, apparently it can be repaired or replaced under the three year warranty. So my advice to you if your buying a new monitor  keep your receipt fill it in, dont take a risks or might be sorry.

Thank you for that advice Celia,

I have been thinking about buying a bigger one, because I hoped that I would be able to see it better!

P.S you can do that via your computer OR if your mouse has a wheel just turn it towards you. That will make it whatever size you want smaller or larger Grin

Hi Celia,

I have already done that!  But I found my Daughter's screen which is a lot bigger than mine, so easy to read!

I am saving up really, because it would probably be best to get another computer long term.

Thanks so much for your advice though, I do appreciate it!

My husband has had a large flat screen monitor (I think its about 16")  for about 5 years now and has never had a problem.  It is an NEC Multisync LCD 2070VX.

re monitor warranties.  They are not repaired but replaced with a refurbished one.
I know as I used to work in the service dept of HP.

Hi JC,

I was considering a new one because I hoped that it might be easier to see now that I am having trouble with  my eyes.   Cool

I would value your opinion on the flat screen v the ordinary monitor, if you have the time!

Thank you  in anticipation!

Did you know that on most website you can change the size of the text!!!

Just hold down the CTRL key and move the wheel on the mouse and the text will get bigger or smaller depending on which way you move the wheel.

Hi Zeb,

Been there done that, tried all the tricks!  Having eye probs you see!  Nothing to be done except get a bigger screen and a new machine later on!  This one is getting old like me now! Grin

The last time I changed my PC screen, I bought a 22" widescreen one.  Widescreen monitors are extremely useful in genealogy research, because you can have two windows side by side on the screen at once, which makes it very handy when comparing one document or web page with another, or transcribing from one screen to another.  Just the ticket !  Smiley
