1782 birth alternative

any help please,
I am looking for a birth in 1782 of a Joseph Challinor.
I now know he was married at Cheadle St Marys in 1809.
He Died in 1827 aged 45 and was buried in St Marys Churchyard (no headstone)
He lived at Brinksway , Stockport.
on the IGI, the only close matches are one at Frodsham in 1781 or one at Oldham, Lancs in 1786. could the latter be the one? clutching at straws -Joseph in Oldham his father was George, our Joseph named his first Son George?
Also his wife Jane Hulme was born at Denton, Lancs, similarly not to far away from Oldham?
Finally can anyone suggest any other records that might open up his birthplace?
