Hi
The IGI has an extracted entry for a JAMES MCKENZIE marrying a MARJORY REID At Peterhead in August 1818. Given the name of their daughter this seems a possibility. However there is a Marjory McKenzie with a son James in the 1841 census who is not the one from this family, so there may have been another James who married in Peterhead.
IGI also has extracted entries for JAMES MCKENZIE Dec 1818 Peterhead ALEXANDER MACKENZY May 1820 Peterhead WILLIAM MACKENZY Nov 1821 Peterhead MARJORY MCKENZY May 1824 Peterhead ISABELLA MCKENZY Jun 1826 Peterhead JAMES MCKENZY Dec 1827 Peterhead ANDREW McKenzy Oct 1829 Peterhead ANN MCKENZY Nov 1831 Peterhead HELEN REID MCKENZIE May 1836 Peterhead
Are you doubtful of the children because only James is listed as father and no mother, or because of the difference in spelling of the surname with the first James? I think you can be fairly sure of Helen.
Freecen 1841 census has a James (40) with an Alexander (20) and James (13) in Queen St. Peterhead-Parl all Seamen, and another entry with May (40) Seaman's Wife, with most of the other children, also a lady with the surname REID. I would suggest that you check out the census records further, you may find other visiting relatives which could help you trace the line further back.
Hope this helps
Kirsty

Hi again
Looking at the IGI I can see the Marriage of Caleb MCKENZIE and Jane ROBSON in Tyrie, Jun 1795 and then the Christening for James MCKENZIE in March 1796 in Peterhead.
I can't seem to find any mention of the siblings. I would be interested to know where the information came from ( I know the IGI is not a comprehensive record). Have I just missed them as they are mistranscribed or something?
No sign of Caleb's birth. A couple of possibles for Jane, but without more information it's very hard to be sure. Has the marriage entry for Caleb and Jane been viewed?

Hi all
The IGI has a possible birth for MAY REID, Christened May 1796 Old Machar to Thomas Reid and Elizabeth Boys. (who married in 1786, Logie Buchan) The other lady with the McKenzies on the 1841 census was an Elizabeth Reid. The ages are a bit dodgy, with Elizabeth being given as 50, but as May is given as 40, when she was probably 45, and census data is not always accurate... The other possibility I thought of was that the lady in the census mught have been an elder sister. The only candidate I found ( in a brief search) was an Elspet, only 2 years older than May.
ho hum

Hi again Gwen,
The IGI has a Submitted entry for the marriage of Alexander Reid and Ann Henry - 27 NOV 1787 Old Deer, Aberdeen, Scotland.
Also to this couple Submitted Birth: ANDREW REID 10 Feb 1788 Old Deer , Aberdeen. Submitted Christening MARJORY REID 25 DEC 1796 Old Deer, Aberdeen, Scotland Extracted Christening: JAMES REID 11 MAR 1804 Old Deer, Aberdeen, Scotland Extracted Christening: WILLIAM REID 11 MAR 1804 Old Deer, Aberdeen, Scotland Extracted Birth: ALEXANDER REID b.23 ch.26 JUN 1792 Old Deer, Aberdeen, Scotland
Freecen shows a possible family in the 1841 census Leslie -Aberdeenshire Piece: SCT1841/215 With Alexander and Ann in their 70s and Alexander aged 45, also 2 female Reids who may be cousins as there is another lady -JANE REID aged 70 living with them. I don't know if you have any census records for this family already. Or any sign of visiting relatives with the Mckenzie family?
There may be more to find, I just started looking. I wonder if James and William were twins or if it was just convenient to have them christened at the same time?
I'll keep digging
Kirsty
