Newman's in Chelmsford, Essex England between 1824 to at least the 1880's
My grandfather was Frederick John Newman born 1887 Middlesex, England.
I know my great-grandparents were Frederick Charles Newman and Mary Ann Simmons from my grandfahter's birth certificate.
Guesswork based on searches of the censuses (mostly transcriptions) and BMD indexes have given me the following-
Frederick Charles' father is George Newman born apx 1824 in Essex, England and his mother is Mary Bridge born apx 1835 in Southminister, Essex, England. They had at least the following children all born in Chelmsford: George Henry Newman b 1859 Louisa Jane Newman b 1861 John William Newman b 1863 Frederick Charles Newman b 1865 Alice Mary Newman b 1868
George is not listed on the 1871 census and Mary is remarried by the 1881 census because it lists a Mary Ann Willsher with the Newman children as stepchildren to the head of house. There is a George Newman in the death index of Sep 1868, not sure if this is the right person.
Mary married Frank Willsher probably around 1872, but I can't find the marriage in the BMD index, the 1881 census show that Frank was born 1845 in White Colne, Essex, England and was a miller and stone man (stone dresser) they had the following children according to the 1881 census: Mary Ann Willsher b 1873 Florence Willshere b 1876 Maud Minnie Willsher b 1878
Maybe someone out there is also searching for this family and might connect? or give me some tips on finding out if the info i have is correct (short of actually ordering all the certificates, which I can't afford that)
