Amelia, born Cliffe Lewes Sussex 1886, registered as Nye-Peters on her birth cerificate, lived Deptford 1891 and West Ham 1901. Father George Nye Peters, mother Emily Kate Newell. The rest of her family were registered as Peters: however I can't find any records for Amelia's marriage (if any) or death. Can anyone help, please?

This is tricky, as she could well have used the name Peters, rather thwn NyePeters, if that is what the family geenrally reverted to in time.
When you say you can t find a death or marriage - have you just search the partial free database, or have you been through every year manually quarter by quarter looking for a marriage and then a death of Amelia, both under Nye Peters and plain Peters?
That is really the only way to go - hopefully will produce a list of "possibles"
Other ways to try and reduce the number of years in which a marriage or death may take place: 1) Is she a witness on any siblings marriages certs? 2) Are there any unascounted for nieces/nephews mentioned in siblings wills? 2) Did her parents leave a will - wonderful sources for seeing what happend to offspring - married names for daughters etc
Thanks for this, I will try the options you gave. They all look very helpful! Amelia may have died young as I only found out that she existed from the 1901 Census... she was never mentioned by any of the family I've met. What's the best way to find out if someone actually left a will? I doubt if any of the Peters had enough estate to justify making one.

post 1858 Wills are indexed at The Probate office in Holborn - free to search. £5 to order a Will.
Wills actually come from York. You can order direct from then if you have a date of death - I think the £5 may include a search for a year ot two. Details are on the Probate website. I'll see if I can find it and post a link. If not try Googling.
