Hi All,
Last month I did a post asking for the Court Records relating to Samuel Wallis. Both Dave and Jim gave me a lot of invaluable info for which I truly thank them. I now have a bit more information which should make tracing Samuel's birth a little easier.
Samuel's parents were Thomas Wallis and Elizabeth Grubb. They were married at Wroughton on 19 November 1814. On the 1841 Census they were shown as living at Wroughton, Wroughton, Cricklade.
I would greatly appreciate it if someone could see if they could trace the Birth/Baptism records of this couples children, especially Samuel. From a couple of sources it looks like he was born in 1816, however his marriage certificate on 17 June 1851 gives his age as 35. Could he have fibbed! The 1841 Census shows a Samuel b1816 (Birth Place, Wiltshire) living at Wroughton Tything, Wroughton, along with Elizabeth Wallis, 25 and Robert Wallis 15, sister and brother maybe or did Samuel marry in Wiltshire before he was convicted and exiled? Nothing would surprise me with this lad. Any help anyone could give me with this family would be very much appreciated.
Regards, Tissy

Hi,
From the registers for Wroughton, there are these 2 baptisms.
10/2/1815 George Wallis, s Thomas & Elizabeth, Wroughton, Miller
17/3/1816 Samuel Wallis, s Thomas & Elizabeth, Wroughton, lab
I did check up until 1823, but found no other Wallis children to this couple!!
Best wishes Paula

Hi Paula,
Thank you so much for the baptism records for Samuel and his brother. The 1816 date for Samuel fits in with everything except the age given on his marriage certificate, but that's fine. As I suspected he told a little fib but considering his bride's age, I'm not surprised.
I appreciate your efforts very much Paula, without your help and that of other Rootschaters, sorting out the life of Samuel Wallis would be so very much more difficult.
Thank you once again, don't forget me if you have any Australian queries at any time, I would love to return the favour.
Regards, Tissy
