so MAry J was 11 and Luxeydubrey 13 when they were orphaned. I wonder where they went?

Ellen or Agnes could be married by then and they could be with them, but I cant find them. grrrr.

Oooh just had a thought - did someone say Dad was of Welsh origin? So they could have gone to a Welsh granny? Not beyond the realms of possibility.
Methinks a squint at 1861 WELSH census would be an idea, if only to rule this idea out if they are not there.

Nothing obvious there, though.

I love the way we're all calling this poor girl Luxeydubrey  Grin

My mother in law had 4 kids, when she couldn't think of the right name for the one she wanted she used to call out "you flugey'.

Yeah I'd looked in Wales too,under Rowland/s and Roland/s
Or of course knowing Ancestry they could be down as anything Grin

Uh oh Shocked

There is a Sarah ROWLAND, 8 b Holborn, in Newington in 1851 with her parents: HO107/1566/250/4.

Meliora found the Female ROWLAND b Sep 1844 Bloomsbury - what perplexes me about her is that that's the same quarter in which Mary Jane ROWLAND was registered in Holborn Huh

As we seem to be having a problem finding the children in later censii could the siblings have emigrated? Can anyone check passenger lists

(thought Lucy Amelia was too easy)

Outbound passenger lists unfortunately don't start until 1890.

I have searched for Richard Sandon ROWLAND globally but he doesn't seem to be anywhere that I have access to (Eng/Wales/US).

Perhaps Ian knows more about what happened to this family?

If you do a search on Richard Sandon on FreeBMD 6 come up with those christian names but there is only the baptism of Richard Sandon Rowlands listed

I think they must have emigrated otherwise they changed their surname

So it is looking as if neither Sarah, nor "female" are the births of Luxeydubrey.

It is strange if Richard was born Holborn before her and MAry J bn holborn after her, that she was not Holborn.

Baptism?  Where did you find that?  I've tried and failed.

Modified: on re-reading I wonder whether what you meant was that only the registration of his birth (and no marriage or death) is on FreeBMD (?)

If you look at Ian's profile, you will see he's in New Zealand.

Maybe that's where all the missing Rowlands went to  Grin

And that's why he hasn't replied yet either- the poor chap is still in bed  Wink

Presumably this is Richard and Eliza's marriage (IGI, extracted):

Richard ROWLAND
Eliza TAYNTON

27 Jan 1831 Bromley, Kent

I was hoping her maiden name would be Luxeydubrey...
