Mum44 and Patrish,
WOW, WOW, WoW!!!! You two are superstars!!
Thank you so much for the info and sorting out the Harris's and their birthplaces. (It seems to be a family failing, my huband's grandfather Ernest Harris was born in Northampton, and the Enumerator has stamped Northampton for the birthplaces of the whole family, when half of them were born in Middx. Either the Harris's were confused or the Enumerator got carried away.)

It's fantastic to have some of the Cornelius family too...so thank you both for all your hard work. I have scribbled everything down and am looking forward to putting it all together this evening Smiley

Can I just say - John Harris snr. born 1825 - married to Mary Cornelius -  they lived in Lyme Regis, so may not have been buried in Chard  ?

Mum44,
Thanks for the reminder! It's partly why I put Alli's offer on hold. The contact on Genesreunited has turned out to be my husband's second cousin, not that they knew about each other before! I have lots of info to give her after all the hard work done between you and Patrish yesterday Smiley

The marraige cert betwwen John Harris and Mary Elizabeth Cornelius shows John Harris Dad to be William Harris, a labourer. The person who got the cert has William married to an Elizabeth. William born 1770 Axminster, Devon and Elizabeth b 1788 Axminster. Their son John was born in Axminster in 1825. I don't know if he had any siblings.

Can anyone please help with the following?

1. Are William and Elizabeth on the 1841 census?
2. Can anyone help with the marraige between William and Elizabeth. Date/Place/her maiden name. I can't see anything on Family Search.
3. Did William and Elizabeth have any other children?

Thanks for any help at all.

Well, I think they are still there in Church Street, Lyme Regis in 1861 :

RG9. P. 1370  Fol. 61  Pg. 17

Church Street, Lyme Regis

HARRIS
William  Head  M  77  Chimney Sweeper  B. Devon, Sampford
Elizabeth  Wife  M  71                              B. Devon, Axminster
Henry  Son   15              ~           ~         B. Chard

in 1861 Henry was down as grandson.
William was a sweep in 1861 also.

In 1871 Elizabeth is living with John - as previously mentioned in post above.

It is a bit confusing Patrish!

In 1871 - when Elizabeth was living with John, she said 83 years.

That would make her born 1788,  which is the year Bev. was given, and if this is them in 1851 and 1861  -  which we don't know  -  then her age would be about right -1788 / 1790 / 1791.

However, the William in this pair was apparenty born 1784, which is 14 years younger than Bev. has the age   Sad

Well done,  Alli    Grin

That gives  John b. 1825 as well   Grin  Grin

NB: mis-indexed as Harries.

If this is the right family - and it certainly has possibilities - then the age Bev. was given for William does not appear correct  Sad
