John Arnot Gamekeeper
« on: Thursday 15 May 08 14:21 BST (UK) »

Looking for info on a John Arnot, maybe a gamekeeper at Kinloch-Rannoch, Perthsire. He was married to a Jane Marshall Buchan (died May 19, 1982). Am wondering when they married and when he died. Apparently they had no children.
Thanks, Catherine

Hello

Just had a look on www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk - the offical govt site (pay per view).  Only allows marriage look ups online to 1932 - no sign there - so possibly after '32. Only other option is if you live in Scotland is to visit a local Registrars with Internet facilities and they'd do the look up for a fee.  Or hopefully someone visiting one can put the names on a list and do a lookup?

Regards,   Steve :O)

Between 1920 and 2006 - there are 32 John Arnots dying in Scotland.

Thanks Steve for that info. Unfortunately I live in Canada so that option is not possible. At least I have it narrowed down somewhat. Jane Marshall Buchan was born in 1898 making her quite old when she married - perhaps why there was no children.

Hi,
Just had a quick look on S.P. As Steve says, the marriages only go up to 1932 online but a Jane Marshall Buchan was married in 1928, Edinburgh City. Unfortunately it wasn't to John Arnot.
I see that you have a year of birth for Jane as 1898 - was this from her death certificate. On S.P I could only find one Jane Marshall Buchan born between 1890 and 1920 and that was in 1903, Peebles, Peebleshire. This may not be your Jane.
I take it that you have her death certificate. Did it mention whether she had been married before?
None of this may help, of course, as I am only using S.P's free searches.
Good luck and hope someone can help you.

Hi Rae - You sure got my heart going!! Jane Marshall was born in Trefriw Carnarvonshire Wales - 1901 census shows she was 12 then. (I don't have her baptism record).
It was a family member who told me the date of her death in 1982.
She was a witness to her sister Marion Paterson Buchan's marriage to William Smith Aug. 26, 1916 at Glasgow and she wasn't married yet but when she signed the death cert. of her mother Margaret Paterson (White) Buchan in 1946 she was an Arnott.
In 1928 she would have been 30 which makes sense. Very interesting.
Thanks again, Catherine
