Adam Armstrong
« on: Thursday 15 May 08 15:36 BST (UK) »

Hello All,
Some time ago I saw a reference to the death date of Adam Armstrong d 10th May, 1696 & his wife Elspeth Scott d 14th July, 1734. I jotted down the info, but can't remember where it originally came from!
Does anyone recognise the above? I think they were in the Saughtree area. Also, can anyone confirm any of the above dates?
Thanks
Bob
PS I can't stretch to Scotlandspeople!

castlebob,

ScotlandsPeople would be no help to you.  Death records on SP do not begin until 1855 - the start of Statutory Registration.

There is a submitted entry in the IGI which lists the death of Adam ARMSTRONG as 10 May 1695, Saughtree Dumfries, and of his wife Elspeth SCOTT as 14 July 1734 at Saughtree.

There is also a Pedigree Resource File on FamilySearch with the same information.  It includes the name of the submitter of the PRF.

JAP
(edited to draw attention to 1695 date rather than 1696)

Hello again,
Just found some paperwork which reads:

"Here lyes Adam Armstrong who died 11th June 1672, also Adam Armstrong who died 10th May 1696 & Elspeth Scott his spouse who died 14th July 1734, also Robert Armstrong son to John Armstrong in Saughtree who died 7th May 1743"

I can't recall where this info came from, but it reads like a gravestone inscription. Any clues anyone?
Thanks,
Bob

Bob,

Who knows?

It's a good idea always to record the sources of your own information/records  Grin

Have you checked out MIs (Monumental Inscriptions) for the district?

There may well be published booklets of such MIs for the area.
