Hello you did not mention your Grandad's name that may help
Looked on 1881 Census for Ellie has she would have been born around 1874 according to age at death. Of course Brennan may have been her Married name.
1881 @ Hayward House St Helens Hampshire Visiting with the Caws I..ett Caws Head Wid 45 Lodging House Keeper Born Somerset Mark Annie K Caws dau 12 " Sea ... ? BEATRICE E Brennan vis 3 " Surrey Norwood
could the E stand for Ellie
also 1881 @ Milligans Place Victoria Rd Chesterton Cambridge Henry I Brennan Head 31 Wodd and Stone ? Born Cambridge Mary Ann " Wife 30 " George I " son 6 " Agnes M " dau 5 " ELEANOR L " dau 3 " Frederick U " son 4 months "
realise age a bit out but worth keeping in mind
Let me know more about Grandad age place of birth and Full names and I will try again
regards Pam

A real puzzle this, do you have census records for Charles say 1881 1891 is it possible he has a sister named Ellen, Eleanor etc Do you know Charles parents names. As I don't know, there is an 1891 will list it but may be wide of the mark I am thinking Ellie Brennan could be a sister.
1891 @ Stroud Green Road Croydon Surrey James Reigate Head Marr 42 Born Surrey Woodside Jessie Wife 33 "

Hi Mayday.
You have not mentioned in which graveyard your grandfather was buried?
I think that Tandridge Council could have more details. They may be able to tell you if the cost of your grandfather's burial was met by a relative or friend. If not then the local authority would have to accept the charge. If this was not the case then burial records, held at the cemetery, may give details of the undertaker used. From them you may be able to find out if any cost stipulation was stated.Assuming of course that they are still in business.
Dave.

Yes, the local council should be able to tell you whether it was a "public" otherwise known as "pauper's" grave whereby the ground is owned by them (the council) and further unrelated persons may be buried in the same grave or whether it was a "purchased" grave with the deeds to the grave held by the family for x number of years.
